Yeah, it has been one year since my baby is born and the time is flying faster than I ever imagined. And for me, it is the time to equip myself with the best parenting skills. I have seen highly enthusiastic parents with excellent parenting skills and motivated to do it. But is it possible for me to imitate them or to be so lovely like them? Hundreds of questions revolving my head urging me to spend hours and hours on the internet just to know how to train my child in the very best way. Wandering around the blogs and books, finally, I reached a stage of discouragement and sought the Lord. As young mothers, we might be fascinated and carried away by so many parenting theories. But we should always remember that we have a Father in Heaven who can give us the wisdom to raise godly children.

Seeking to be a better parent

“They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed” [Psalm 34:5]

All these days, I was complicating silly things, and it failed to depend on God. I should have asked the Lord God for guidance who gives the wisdom to those who ask.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb [Psalm 139:13]

I failed to trust the Lord who created my child in my womb. And I forsake the Lord who could give me divine wisdom to raise my child for His glory. I am not underestimating the different parenting techniques. But as a Christian, I need more of Jesus in my life to be a better parent.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. [John 15:5]

As for me, I strongly desire to raise my child in love for God and the word of God says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So everything is possible for the one who believes.

Do I have Jesus in my life?Yeah, of course. Am a Christian, I go to church every Sunday, attend bible study classes, have an excellent Christian circle. What more do I need? Is that enough? Or do I love to proclaim myself as a self-righteous person? Am I a hypocrite?

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. [ John 14:23]

Do I abide myself in him by keeping his instructions for me as a father? Am I living according to His will ?

A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honor? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name? [Malachi 1:6]

Being a child of God, I despised the holy name of God by not honoring Him by keeping his commandments.

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [ James 2:10]

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. [1 John 1:7]

…And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous [1 John 2:1]

So we have hope in Christ who pleads on behalf of us to our heavenly father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit who guides us to do the will of God.

Divine Guidance in Parenting

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. [John 14:26]

  • Honor God by living in his word

We need to obey the word of God of entirely in the way we love our children to listen to us.

  • Ask forgiveness quickly

Encourage children to ask forgiveness if they disobey and forgive them.

  • We received grace for the remission of our sins

Never remind children of their previous mistakes but be compassionate as our heavenly father is. He remembers that we are just dust and in the same way we need to remind ourselves that they are just children, not adults.

For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. [Psalm 103:14]

  • Follow the example of Christ

Let the children learn obedience through our personal life, conduct with others and the way we submit to husbands.

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [Philippians 2:8]

So, I encourage all the mothers out there, my sisters in Christ, about the hope that we have in Christ. Even if we slip a little or amidst a messed up life, we still have confidence. We can always cling on to the grace that has called us to be the children of God and ask divine wisdom to raise the children in the way He leads us.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 3:13,14]

  • Sara, this is awesomely beautiful. I hope that other parents, regardless of their stage in parenting, read your message and take it to heart. There are so many parenting resources out there that can confuse, overwhelm and misguide us. And if we are not careful we'll end up in the fetal position and not get up until our children are old enough to leave home. But the best parent, God the Father, has given us His Word to guide us and His Spirit to teach and empower us to parent and do everything His way. May God bless you as you keep your eyes, ears and heart trained on Him. Only Him.
    • Yes, Maria.. Thanks for the lovely words of encouragement. He opened our eyes and helped us to gaze at His marvelous wisdom.. Only by His grace.. In Christian Love, Sara
